I must admit, before trying out Flaming Olive I was a bit apprehensive on what to expect. The reviews I had read were mixed; most people either loved it, or hated it. On walking in, I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing layout. All the tables were perfectly dressed; the seating was exquisite! The wait staff were lovely, helpful and friendly; they made conversation but were not intrusive. For me personally, the service was better than that I had received at a well known fine dining restaurant only a week earlier! The pricing of the meals were very reasonable given the service experience. Now for the most important part, the food.
The first entree ordered was the Socca, Chickpea Creme with Puffed Quinoa, Confit Garlic & Sauteed Kale. For and entree, it was a generous portion. The flavours were whole and the dish was an extreme pleasure to eat. The second entree was the Wagyu Beef Cheek Ragu, Caramelized Gnocchi, Spanish Onion, Parsley & Aged Parmesan. This dish in particular is a favourite at Flaming Olive, and a MUST TRY according to me anyway! The Gnocchi was the best I have ever had. It was so perfect that I spent the entire week after craving for more!
Duck is a personal favourite, so it was only natural that I had to order it; I had also read a terrible review on the dish and wanted to confirm that my findings were not true. The dish was a Fragrant Duck Breast with Aromatic Quince, Almond, Duck Parfait, Tendrils & Jus Gras. I was blown away, that is all I can say. Combined with the Duck Parfait and Quince, the protein worked a treat and left my taste buds singing! The second main was the Milly Hill Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder, Celeriac Remoulade, Chimicurri, Lemon Cheek. The lamb was mouth watering and the portion size was PERFECT! An Organic Winter Salad with Puffed Quinoa & a Beurre Noisette Dressing was also ordered as a side for the main meals. The dressing was unlike anything I had ever tasted before, and I will definitely reorder it in the future (If it is still on the menu of course).
The dessert was my favourite! It was purely art! The 70% Golden Chocolate Orb was to die for! It was filled with a Hazelnut Mousse, Poached Pear, & Poir William Ice Cream. Hot Chocolate Fondue was poured on the Orb to create edible entertainment. So perfect! Their famous Snowball was next in line. The Fluffy Cheesecake was perfectly balanced with the Citrus Curd and the White Chocolate Aero added an element of texture to the dish.
For any one who has heard a negative review on Flaming Olive, I would urge you to try it for yourself, as in my opinion, Owner Gordon Yu is doing a fantastic job! This is definitely a venue I shall be returning to not only for casual dining, but to also celebrate the milestones in life (Yes, that is how much I enjoyed it!).
