I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nest Brisbane. Located at hip Hotel Jen Brisbane, just next to the Brisbane Transit Centre on Roma Street, this restaurant and bar serves up delicious and authentic Asian dishes with a modern twist.
Overlooking Roma Street’s renowned fig tree strung with red lanterns, Nest is the perfect spot to eat, drink and relax. The modern open kitchen and Asian-inspired decorations add to the restaurant’s authenticity, and the spacious dining area and luxurious cocktail lounge brings a fancy, funky and fresh vibe to an area of the city not well known for its dining offerings.
We sampled two starters: the Pork Belly, and the Fried Spiced Calamari. The Pork Belly was beautifully tender but with a bit of a crunch on the top – just the way I like it! The Fried Spiced Calamari was also delicious and not too oily despite being deep fried.
For our mains, we ordered the Honey Sesame Chicken, and the Mee Goreng. The Mee Goreng was certainly the heartier meal of the two – our plate was piled high with noodles! That being said, the dish had a great ratio of noodles to meat and vegetables. The Mee Goreng from Nest is served with a combination of chicken, beef, lamb, and various vegetables.
The Honey Sesame Chicken was a lighter main meal by comparison but just as delicious! The chicken was fried and served with steamed greens and jasmine rice and we loved the rich, sweet flavour of the honey.
No meal is complete without dessert, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Apple Rhubarb Crumble with Maple Syrup Ice Cream! It was a delicious way to top off our Nest experience.
Not only were the meals piping hot when they were brought to your table, but they smelled and tasted so fresh. Nest provides a ‘rooftop to plate’ experience, producing their own honey and growing their own herbs in their ‘Sky Garden’. Yum!
Nest is open for a la carte dining for lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday (opens at 2pm Saturday), and offers a buffet breakfast all week long. It’s also a great setting for afternoon or evening drinks, with a great selection of beers and wines and a cocktail list specially-crafted by the talented mixologists behind the bar. Nest really is the perfect setting for any occasion, so make sure it’s next on your list!
