Pappa Rich Brisbane

Location: Wintergarden Brisbane CBD

Meal: Lunch/ Dinner

Overall Experience: 7.5/10

Food: 7/10

Service: 8/10

Papa Rich has opened their doors at Wintergarden Mall and has taken off with a bang. With queues out the front, the family oriented, Malaysian Restaurant, offers fragrant, wholesome dishes, right in the heart of the CBD.

Here are some of the dishes on the menu that we tried out:

ROTI CANAI WITH TANDOORI CHICKEN

Coming from an ethnic background,Tandoori Chicken is something we eat at home at least once a week. The wait time on this dish is 15 minutes longer than most dishes at Papa Rich as it is made from scratch. The chicken itself could have been marinated for a bit longer as the flavours were lacking. The Roti was absolutely perfect. Buttery, and crispy ahh! I love roti canai and theirs would definitely rate high up on my list.

DRY CURRY EGG NOODLES WITH CURRY CHICKEN

This dish was absolutely amazing. The egg noodles made the dish a healthy, light option against the full flavoured curry. The serving was all very generous.

PAPPA DEEP FRIED CHICKEN SKIN

To break up our meal, we ordered the deep fried chicken skin, which were heavenly. They were so addictive, I could not stop eating them. These were the real deal, crispy chicken that had a delicious flavour to it. I think they would work really well with a cold beverage.

Burrito Bar | Rosalie

Location: Rosalie

Meal: Dinner/ Lunch

Price: $2 to $50

Overall Experience: 7/10

Food: 6/10

Service: 8/10

The Burrito Bar has recently renovated their store in Rosalie Village. We have previously tried a few other stores, but were not impressed with the quality of food and service. So naturally at first, we were a bit hesitant to check out the  Rosalie Store. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised; the place looked amazing and they definitely redeemed themselves in our books.

Here are the options we tried out from the menu:

QUESADILLAS

Delicious, 12 hour slow cooked pulled pork quesadillas with lots and lots of cheese. Melted cheese is always a good idea. The pulled pork was equally delicious and whole in flavour. This is definitely an option that I will be ordering in the future.

BBQ WINGS

Okay so I am going to be 100% honest here. I have previously had the wings from Burrito Bar and was extremely disappointed (mind you I ordered the Chipotle ones). My previous experience delivered wings that were starved of meat and terrible chipotle flavouring. The Bbq Wings had a pleasant flavour and were definitely a step up, however, I did find that the actual wings themselves needed more meat on them.

BBQ RIBS

I am a huge sucker for ribs, so naturally I was going to order them over a burrito or nachos. They were served up with delicious, cheesy Mexi Fries…yum! The flavour of the ribs was amazing and they were pleasant to eat. However, the meat was not as juicy as I would have liked it to be.

CHOCOLATE NACHOS

One of my favourite desserts of all time. Chocolatey nachos with a serving of ice cream and warm chocolate sauce. Need I say more? I love the crunchiness of this dessert, which left me wanting more.

Mighty Mighty | New Spring Menu

Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

Meal: Lunch/Dinner

Price: $3.50 – $35

Overall Experience : 10/10

Food: 10/10

Service: 10/10

My review for Mighty Mighty, will be slightly bias, as before I  tried their new Spring Menu, they were already my favourite place in Brisbane. They are my go to place, I pay them a visit once a week without fail.

Okay, so we were given $100 to spend and this is what we chose: Original Wings, Sriracha Honey & Garlic Wings, Jalapeno Poppers, Cajun Fried Macaroni & Cheese, Steak Frites & Alcoholic Ginger Beer. All this only costed us $75, which is not bad if you ask me.

The Original Buffalo Wings are served with Blue Cheese Sauce. They were slightly spicy but juicy with every bite. I reckon I could have eaten two servings of these quite easily without getting bored. The Sriracha Wings were as amazing as they always are. Crispy goodness with that slap of heat from the Sriracha but the sweet goodness from the honey. This is my favourite dish of all time! I would eat it every day if I could.

The Cajun Fried Mac & Cheese, is one of the new additions onto the Spring Menu. I made a rookie error and tried this dish after having the Sriracha Wings, at which point, my taste buds were numb from heat. However, the concept of the dish was amazing. I would recommend eating this first before the other options on the menu.

cajus

Moving on to the Jalapano Poppers, ahhh amazing. That is all I have to say. They are officially the best in Brisbane! I have tasted a fair few Jalapeno Poppers in my time, and Mighty Mighty has the best cheesy ones, the bacon tops it off, adding a smoky, salty element to the starter. These are also served up with Blue Cheese sauce, but taste equally as delicious eaten alone.

Those Steak Frites though, the best in Brisbane. They are lightly battered and fried until crunchy. They are then topped with a smoky paprika salt that is heavenly! I would recommend dipping them in Blue Cheese Sauce for an extra wow effect!

The Stores | West End

Location : Montague Road, West End

IMG_20151003_121034

Heaven is probably the best way to describe The Stores. With a room filled entirely with local cheeses (my idea of heaven) and an array of cured meats and wines, The Stores has something for everyone. It is a one stop location, show casing some of Queensland’s best produce.

I was particularly impressed with the muesli and healthy snacks on offer, consuming the space of an entire room. If you are considering taking up clean eating or if you like to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I would recommend popping by and checking out their snacks and muesli as it the best and broadest selection I have ever seen.

To paint a picture in your mind, The Stores can almost be compared to the James Street Markets (built by the same developers) except their is a level of wow factor to the layout and products on offer. I would recommend heading over and checking it out for yourself.

Sandstone Point Hotel | Bribie Island

Location: Bribie Island

Meal: Lunch/Dinner

Cost: $9 – $40

Overall Experience: 10/10

Service: 10/10

Food: 10/10

The Sandstone Point is unlike any tavern I have ever seen, it is a destination that has put Bribie Island on the foodie map. The interior boasts character, combining a country, relaxed atmosphere with that of Bribie’s beach culture as well as a twist of modernism.

The venue has 2 main function rooms available as well as a grand outdoor area facing the water. They are in the process of building a chapel for wedding services and turning the old oyster shak into an amazing takeout.

The Food

The  chef was kind enough to introduce us to some of the best offerings on the menu. The menu boasts 6 varieties of which we were lucky enough to sample the natural and kilpatrick oysters. I must say these were absolutely divine, succulent and fresh. The kilpatrick oysters were full of flavour and left me wanting more. The price of these vary between $16 and $33 depending on serving size. IMG_20150906_140949IMG_20150906_141009

We also sampled the Mooloolaba prawns served on ice. They were absolutely delicious. Very messy but delicious. The prawns were served whole, so it was a bit of a team effort removing the shells. I would recommend this dish for a laid back family outing.

IMG_20150906_141100

The seafood continued on for mains as we were served with a delicious seafood share platter ($35) featuring tempura fish, battered scallops, prawns, oysters, a citrus salad and chips. The citrus salad was beatiful and fresh and helped balance the buttery batter from the scallops. Overall and amazing dish and a great way to share food.

The Location

Located right on the water, with a large outdoor area that can accommodate 20 000 people, the Sandstone is a great place to spend the weekend with the family. There is live entertainment over the weekend, as well as jumping castles and a playing area for the kids.

Unlike most traditional taverns, the hotel boasts quirky features in their interior with an ice cream bar as well as a spit roast offered on Sundays.

Food: 10/10

burgerurge

Starting from humble beginnings in Fortitude Valley, Burger Urge has since grown into a much loved burger place throughout Australia. By the end of this year they  will have their 20th store opened, what an achievement. Opened by 2 brothers, the brand now  invites all burger lovers by offering franchise opportunities.

As a self confessed burger addict, I will admit that these guys are one of my favourites. The staff are always happy, the portion sizing is generous, they taste delicious and not to forget they are also reasonably priced.

So what, is my favourite pick off the menu? Well the New Yorker of course. Featuring a prime beef patty  with American style cheese, crispy bacon, pickles, smoky bbq sauce, garlic mayo, lettuce and tomato. One cannot simply, avoid this baby. Oh, and that bbq sauce…It is absolutely mind blowing with the bacon.

Their fries are also on our radar as some of the best in Brisbane.

Our favourite fried foods | Brisbane

The colder weather calls for extreme comfort food. As you may already know, we love all things fried and greasy and so it is only natural that we compile a list of our favourites.

Mighty Mighty

If you love your fried chicken as much as I do, Mighty Mighty should be your go-to place. Offering a variety of fried wings priced at a reasonable $12 for 8. These babies are sure to hit the spot. My personal favourite is the Sriracha, Honey & Garlic wings; perfectly crispy with a hot sauce that packs a punch. They are so delicious I cannot stay away from them. Will not lie, I have these at least once a week.

The Boast Shed has taken the humble fish & chips and turned it into something spectacular. Beautifully presented and equally as delicious; this has got to be one of our favourite fish & chip stores in Brisbane. I would highly recommend adding in the calamari to your meal.

The Boroughs Of New York Pizza, Westfield Carindale

Home to Brisbanes’ New York style 18 inch pizza, the Boroughs also cooks up the most amazing Onion Rings. Perfect, crispy Beer Battered Onion Rings priced at a reasonable $5.50 with a delicious dipping sauce. Next time you are at Westfield doing the  groceries I would highly recommend getting a serving of these to snack on.

Alfred & Constance

Lunch with a view | Blackbird Bar & Grill

Location: Eagle Street, Brisbane CBD

Meal: Lunch

Price: $10 – $40

Overall Experience: 10/10

Food: 10/10

Service: 10/10

Nothing beats a lovely, warm Winters day overlooking the Brisbane River, spending some alone time and indulging on exquisite food. Blackbird Bar & Grill recently launched their new lunch menu which is packed with flavour. I ordered the Steak Frites and  a Watercress salad, just enough for one.

The Steak Frites was one of the most amazing dishes I have had in a while. The flavours were perfect for a Winters day, buttery and spicy, wholesome goodness. The Shoestring Fries as a side worked a treat at bringing some crunch into the meal. Quite surprising that my amazing main only set me back $24.

The Watercress Salad was lovely and fresh, with pear and walnuts. The combination works a treat offset with blue cheese dressing. Seeing as I was having a lovely day to myself, I made sure I ordered a sneaky wine too. I honestly cannot wait to go back!
