Vintaged Bar and Grill

Location: Brisbane CBD
Meal: Dinner
Overall Experience: 10/10
Food: 10/10
Service: 10/10

I was privileged to be invited to taste the special November menu at the Vintaged Bar and Grill. This restaurant is a slice of heaven tucked away on Level 6 of the luxurious Hilton Brisbane.

Each month, the hotel’s restaurants feature a different ingredient and serve unique, delicious dishes featuring such ingredients for that month only. In the spirit of summer, November’s featured ingredient is prawns.

This menu features prawns in both traditional ways and like you’ve never seen them before.

To nibble on while you peruse the menu, enjoy spiced school prawns, squid tentacles and silverfish. These were a great little snack and were so moreish!

These giant tempura prawns made for a delicious starter!

The main put a much fancier spin on the much-loved reef and beef combo – grilled tiger prawns, and beef fillet wrapped in pancetta. Now this is where it gets interesting…the noodles that topped the beef are also made of prawn, minced down and then made into noodles. Cool, right? This whole dish was just yum…juicy delicious prawns and beef cooked to perfection.

I was feeling pretty full after these two, but if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that there’s always room for dessert. This is a roasted white chocolate bar and everything about it is divine.

Spot the prawn in this dish! I’ll admit it’s a little hard to see in this photo, so I’ll tell you. The decoration on the ice-cream scoop is a prawn wafer…but unlike the description suggests, it doesn’t taste fishy at all, but rather, it has a sweet taste and aroma.

I could eat this dessert again…and again…

Overall, this was such an impressive menu. Chef Hueman Lam is very talented and passionate about creating exquisite food. The restaurant has luxurious and relaxing vibes, and the open kitchen always makes for great entertainment!

Treat yourself this month at the Vintaged Bar and Grill before it’s too late!

Thai At Home Brisbane

Location: Hawken Drive, St Lucia

Meal: Lunch/Dinner/Dessert

Price: $6.50 – $20

Overall Experience: 9/10

Food: 9/10

Service: 9/10

Being a self-confessed Thai food connoisseur, I jumped at the chance to attend the launch of Thai At Home Brisbane. Formerly known as Bangkok Delight, this charming, family-owned restaurant in St Lucia just completed a large refurbishment and a total rebrand to bring you an authentic and delicious Thai dining experience.

The value of family can be consistently seen throughout the entire Thai At Home experience, through the gorgeous photo wall, the homely decor, and most importantly the delicious menu offerings! With the notion of family comes the notion of sharing, and the owners of Thai At Home strongly believe that good food should be shared between those that you love.

The mixed entree plate was stocked with samples of classic Thai favourites such as curry puffs, spring rolls, fish cakes and satay sticks. All delicious, it was difficult to exercise restraint and only eat my fair share. But once the mains arrived, it was totally worth it…

Thai at Home showcased to us a broad selection of their main dishes. First to arrive was a whole fish in sweet chilli sauce. Conveniently, the fish was already filleted, making it easier for us to tuck in straight away. The sauce had a delectable sweet and sour taste and the whole fish on the platter just looked generally impressive. The beef mussaman curry was sweet and nutty and had a great balance of meat and vegetables. The beef was also beautifully soft, not tough! The tamarind beef was delicious and the pieces had a somewhat crispy texture which made them so moreish, and their pad thai was simple but flavoursome…not overpowering with spices like some pad thai dishes that I have experienced.

Dessert consisted of a delicious plate of fresh strawberries with chocolate dipping sauce and cream, and a traditional dessert of Thai custard with sweet coconut sticky rice. Having never tasted a traditional Thai dessert before, the flavour and texture combination was so interesting and really enjoyable!

The team at Thai At Home want to bring the best, most authentic Thai food to the whole of Brisbane, so make sure you pay them a visit soon!

The best spots for after work drinks | Brisbane

The best way to end a long day at the office is to drink up with your work mates! Relax, unwind and get into party mode. Oh, and don’t we love a good party. We have made our way through Brisbane finding the best spots, that will be sure to impress your colleagues.

Ending the day at a roof top pool bar with amazing views sounds like perfection to me. Indulge in their boozy cocktails, crafted by their talented bar staff or relax with a glass of wine; and if you need something to nibble on, order some of their amazing share plates. Remember to leave the car at home, as Soleil is located only a stones throw from South Bank train and bus stations.

The Shadow Lounge at Jade Buddah is a personal favourite! The vibe is intimate and relaxed, over looking the beautiful Brisbane River. It is the ideal place to sit down and and chill after a long day, or if you really feel like partying,  make your way to the dance floor! Located close to Ferry Services and only a few minutes walk from Central Station.

Conveniently located next to Roma Street Train Station within Hotel Jen, Nest Brisbane never disappoints. Relax and enjoy their impressive wine menu and whist you are it, try out their Asian Inspired menu.

A hidden bar, with pool tables and an Asian Inspired menu, what more could one ask for? The ideal space to retrieve from the world. I would recommend trying out their Frozen Espresso or the Golden Gai-Time Cocktails.

Grab a few cocktail jugs which are reasonably priced (under $35)  and take in the views of the beautiful Treasury Casino. Communal Bar & Eat House is located in Brisbane Square and is the perfect place for a a few cocktails and some pizza (definitely try out their pizza).

Zeus Street Greek

Location: Southbank, Shop S13/ 14 Little Stanley Street

Meal: Lunch/ Dinner

Food: 9/10

Service: 9/10

The Zeus food philosophy is to use time-honored methods and family recipes to make real food, with integrity, taste and freshness, and don’t they do just that!

Zeus is fast becoming one of our favorite places to dine in Southbank. Even though this place does get quite busy (especially evenings on the weekend) the friendly staff are always ready to greet you as walk in. The food is always spot on – fresh, quick and delicious. A great option for a quick take away lunch or a bite to eat before catching a movie on the weekend.

The food is reasonably priced with their delicious pitas starting from only $9.50. There are also vegetarian and gluten free options (gluten free pita, salads) so that no one is left out. A must try from the menu (and my personal favourite) is the Spartan Pita – chicken with Aegean slaw, preserved lemon mayo, caramelized onion and parsley – delicious! The feta chips are also a big hit 😛
