The Sandstone Point is unlike any tavern I have ever seen, it is a destination that has put Bribie Island on the foodie map. The interior boasts character, combining a country, relaxed atmosphere with that of Bribie’s beach culture as well as a twist of modernism.

The venue has 2 main function rooms available as well as a grand outdoor area facing the water. They are in the process of building a chapel for wedding services and turning the old oyster shak into an amazing takeout.

The Food

The  chef was kind enough to introduce us to some of the best offerings on the menu. The menu boasts 6 varieties of which we were lucky enough to sample the natural and kilpatrick oysters. I must say these were absolutely divine, succulent and fresh. The kilpatrick oysters were full of flavour and left me wanting more. The price of these vary between $16 and $33 depending on serving size. IMG_20150906_140949IMG_20150906_141009

We also sampled the Mooloolaba prawns served on ice. They were absolutely delicious. Very messy but delicious. The prawns were served whole, so it was a bit of a team effort removing the shells. I would recommend this dish for a laid back family outing.

The seafood continued on for mains as we were served with a delicious seafood share platter ($35) featuring tempura fish, battered scallops, prawns, oysters, a citrus salad and chips. The citrus salad was beatiful and fresh and helped balance the buttery batter from the scallops. Overall and amazing dish and a great way to share food.

The Location

Located right on the water, with a large outdoor area that can accommodate 20 000 people, the Sandstone is a great place to spend the weekend with the family. There is live entertainment over the weekend, as well as jumping castles and a playing area for the kids.
